Donna Mae Mims sits up at her own funeral!

Now I have been to some really wild weddings in my time – A redneck wedding on the beach complete with kegs and a Labrador Retriever as the best man; an underwater wedding in full scuba gear; a teenage one in a tree house with cupcakes for a wedding cake and many more zany ceremonies over the years.

However, I cannot say the same for the funerals I have attended in my lifetime. Generally, they have all been either traditional ones or Irish-style wakes. It kind of seems like it’s improper to do things that may be considered to be silly or ridiculous when you are paying your last respects to the deceased.

Well, Donna Mae Mims’s funeral seemed to be just that… ridiculous. Per her wishes, Mims was seated behind the wheel of a pink corvette during the visitation hours of her own funeral. Donna Mae Mims was the first woman to win a Sports Car Club of America national championship in 1963. She died October 6th, 2009 from complications from a series of strokes. She was 82.

A THOUGHT: Having a dead person sit behind the wheel of a race car at their funeral would hardly be the way I would honor someone’s life. Although it is representative of what she did in her lifetime (achievements), I still find it morbid.

Imagine if they had put John Wayne’s dead, rigid body on a horse and rode him through town to the cemetary. What a sight that woulda’ been!

Chase began writing several years ago, but never published anything until the "Are You Friggen' Kidding Me?" blog launched in August of 2009. Chase simply got tired of standing around and just observing all of the craziness in the world, so this anxious writer sat down and wrote the first "Are YOu Friggen' Kidding Me?" article on August 19th, 2009. Now, any time something makes Chase say, "Are You Friggen' Kidding Me?", the issue get's transformed into an article. Chase is currently single, homeless and living under a bridge in South Florida.
